At UCAR we are passionate about our science and making sure that it flows from our research labs and programs to society. Technology transfer spans a wide spectrum and occurs through many different channels, including our publications and provision of open source software and models. Sometimes it may require private research sponsorship and commercialization to transform it into an application or solution. The bottom line is that technology transfer at NCAR and UCAR includes making sure that the public has access to research results and applications, with the goal that they be applied to improving people's lives, livelihoods, and the wellbeing of the planet.
NCAR and UCAR continually advance the cutting edge of science in the weather, water, space weather, and climate spheres. Collaboration with the private applications and operational sector is especially important to ensure that our research is quickly and effectively incorporated into the products and services people and companies use every day—across the country and around the world.
Our research ranges from weather and water to air quality, renewable energy, health, data analysis, supercomputing, space weather, long-term projections of climate, and more:
