On September 29, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will issue the "Summary for Policymakers" from Working Group 1 of its Fifth Assessment Report. Join us for a look into the creation of the IPCC climate assessments and how the effort and process that goes into them has evolved since the First Assessment Report in 1990.
Our presenter, climate scientist Dr. Jerry Meehl, discusses the history of the IPCC and the global participation by which it produces scientific reports that have been accepted by 150 of the world's countries. Jerry will speak from personal experience, tracing his involvement through all five assessment reports as a convening or lead author for the IPCC's Working Group 1, which assesses the physical science of the climate system and climate change.
This webinar is the first of two provided as background in preparation for release of the first part of the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR5). This webinar addresses the IPCC history and process, while the September 19 event examines the public's understanding of the science.
